On 01 Jan 2020, General Bipin Rawat, PVSM UYSM AVSM YSM SM VSM ADC, took charge as India’s first Chief of Defence Staff following his relinquishing charge of the Chief of Army Staff on 31 Dec 2019. The demand for this appointment had reached a crescendo even as the Government turned a deaf ear for years.

Lutyens Delhi was intended for about a million people; the population there now is manifold that figure, apart from the vehicles and buildings. Delhi as a whole has become a quagmire of buildings, roads, vehicles, and people. That it should have been preserved as an administrative capital was an idea that did not appeal to the senses of anyone it is obvious.
