    The appointment of the CDS was a long-awaited one. On 01 Jan 2020, General Bipin Rawat, PVSM UYSM AVSM YSM SM VSM ADC, took charge as India’s first Chief of Defence Staff following his relinquishing charge of the Chief of Army Staff on 31 Dec 2019. The demand for this appointment had reached a crescendo even as the Government turned a deaf ear for years.
